Smile for the Day – Wildlife SOS Rescued Holly

December 28, 2018 By Sherri

Wow! Holly knew she was safe i her new home, just one day after being rescued!

I love supporting Wildlife SOS! It is amazing to hear about the elephants they want to rescue and see people work together to make it happen! Their most recent rescue was of Holly.

From Wildlife SOS Facebook Post December 24, 2018:

#UpdateonHolly: This morning, #Holly went out for a small walk in the Field of Dreams and was busy exploring the surroundings curiously with her trunk reaching out. As she is completely blind in both eyes, our keepers are accompanying her 24 x 7 to avoid her bumping into trees. She seems quite relaxed and calm, may be she knows that we’d never leave her alone. While we wish that Holly could have come to our notice earlier, we take some comfort in knowing that at least now, she is getting the care and love she deserves! … A trunkful of thanks to all our supporters from our sweet elephant Holly!

Bodhi the Talking Elephant Shows Off at the Denver Zoo

September 27, 2017 By Sherri

Bodhi at the Toyota Elephant Passage at the Denver Zoo

Meet Bodhi

Hi! I’m Bodhi (Boh-dee) the Elephant! Let me tell you how I love to show off and get special treats at the Toyota Elephant Passage in the Denver Zoo!

I came into the yard today to play! Groucho was busy keeping Billy from joining me, so I had the place to myself!

We Love the Toyota Elephant Passage

Don’t worry! None of elephants at the zoo are never forced to show up for the fun time. We look forward to coming, because we get yummy treats!

And “tricks” are not required either! Our trainer has worked with us on “behavioral” movements. “These types of behavior, like opening their mouths and presenting their feet, allow keepers to make sure that our animals stay healthy by regularly looking them over for any problems” wrote the Denver Zoo (“We celebrated Bodhi’s 9th birthday,” video. April 2013).

Support the Denver Zoo

I am so cute, the creator of this video adopted me this year! It is a symbolic adoption! Choose an animal to adopt and help support the Denver Zoo and their awareness, preservation, conservation and research efforts!

Thank you, Toyota for sponsoring the Toyota Elephant Passage! We LOVE our spacious and safe home!

Love,

Bodhi (and Sherri)

Help Rescue Animals Like Raju the Elephant

November 8, 2016 By Sherri

Raju was rescued by Wildlife SOS

After a life of shackles for 50 years, Raju was rescued by Wildlife SOS

Raju lived for 50 years in spiked shackles, being fed paper and plastic trash. I am an empathetic person and bawled when I heard his story. I will never understand the cruelty of people!

When the rescuers showed up to take off his shackles and release him, he cried tears down his face!  Raju has been free for two years and I now cry tears of joy right along with him!

I am thankful for Wildlife S.O.S for taking a stand and rescuing this incredible creature, who has more compassion, intelligence and love than most humans these days!

It is a very expensive, legal battle to confiscate animals from torturous lives. Please consider donating to them or another rescue or conservation group. Those of us with hearts for what is right, need to give to those who are working so hard to make a huge difference!

Here are a few more great groups I like:

African Wildlife Foundation

Elephant Sanctuary

Goats of Anarchy

New Moon Farm Animal Rescue and Sanctuary

Save the Elephants

The Wild Animal Sanctuary

Wildlife S.O.S

World Wildlife Fund

Zuma’s Rescue Ranch

My Surprise Christmas Elephant

December 18, 2014 By Sherri

20141218_182850Just wanted to share a very FUN surprise! Although I would love to have a tree and decorations, my hubby simply does not have time to do it.

But, last night when I came home from my doctor appts, I went to turn the corner and I saw this gold and red elephant (I LOVE elephants) in the front yard and some solar lights in our Charlie Brown Tree!! I was sooo excited!! Now, I at least have a few lights to enjoy!!

Unfortunately, this morning he let me know that the wild rabbits chewed through the extension cord. Booooo!! So, he will have to get some conduit to put over the cord. Not sure how he will keep them from doing it again. He is gone another 17 hours today and has a very full Saturday and Sunday as usual.

I guess I can still enjoy it during the day without the lights and be glad I got a picture. … LIFE! Ho hum!

It’s an Animal Palooza Birthday

July 18, 2014 By Sherri

Sherri and GiraffeEveryone who knows me, knows I LOVE animals! For my birthday, I wanted to pet the giraffes and feed an elephant!

I have fed the giraffes once before, but Cheyenne Mountain Zoo recently completed their addition, Encounter Africa! It provides a huge, safe barn with a splash stall for hot days, as well as a large yard with nature, play toys and water.

They now allow you to feed an elephant! I have been wanting to do this for SO long! It was a short experience, unlike with the giraffes whom you could stand there and pet and feed for hours. But I am so glad I did it!

Like many, I am NOT a fan of animals being confined in a zoo! However, there are zoo’s out there who treat their animals as best as possible. Having a zoo provides not only education about animals, but an opportunity for people to fall in love with them and work to protect them in the wild. If we didn’t know anything about these animals or have the ability to see them close up, we would be disconnected and not as compassionate about their valuable lives and conservation. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a non-profit organization that gives proceeds to other organizations working hard to preserve these animals and prevent such things as poaching.
