My Favorite Documentary About Elephants, Jenny and Shirley

January 12, 2017 By Sherri

Shirley and Jenny. Elephant Sanctuary. www.Elephants.com

I love The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee! I have been supporting them for many years and this year, I am sponsoring Shirley!

I own “The Urban Elephant” documentary from 2001 and have been sharing this video with anyone who is willing to watch it. My brother wasn’t too thrilled about sitting through it when I brought it up. But after he saw it, he told me he was so glad I made him watch it and really, REALLY enjoyed it!

“On July 6, 1999, Shirley became the fourth resident of The Elephant Sanctuary, joining Tarra, Jenny, and Barbara. At The Sanctuary, Shirley experienced a very loving reunion with Jenny. Research showed the two elephants had been in the same circus 23 years earlier! This memorable event is the subject of an Emmy-winning National Geographic documentary, ‘The Urban Elephant'” writes The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.

Watch the 12 minute trailer! You will love this story!

Other rescues and sanctuaries I support:

Goats of Anarchy
Save the Elephants
African Wildlife Foundation
Wildlife SOS
The Wild Animal Sanctuary

We Must Fight to Live Again

September 21, 2016 By Sherri

I love this song, “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again,” because it talks about losing all we had, but encourages us to learn to live and enjoy life again.

I know it is HARD!!! It is BEYOND hard!!! But when we lose all that we were and gave us joy, we MUST, some how, some way rebuild a new life. We must find new joys, even if they are small.

Keep fighting, my friends! Get your life back or reinvent yourself. Either way, we must fight for it!

Sherri Brings Awareness to Lyme in May

May 22, 2015 By Sherri

Super Sherri is bringing awareness about Lyme Disease to the world - SherriConnell.comI got Lyme at the age of 14, from a tick bite. I immediately started having chronic headaches and infections. At 19, I started having balance issues and paralysis. By 27, I was paralyzed from the ribs down and so sick I could hardly move.

Decades and countless treatments later, I am still unable to care for my own daily, survival needs and am literally fighting for my life! Read the rest of my Lyme Story.

Did you know that many celebrities have battled Lyme Disease? For example, Avril Lavigne, Richard Gere, Debbie Gibson, Daryl Hall, Yolanda Foster, Ben Stiller, Parker Posey, Karen Allen, Jane Alexander, George W. Bush, Candice Accola, Ashely Olsen and more.
Gere said,
This is one scary disease. I felt as though every ounce of strength had gone from my body… Just turning my head to see the time on the clock was a major operation. I felt as if my life was going in slow motion (18 Celebrities…).
Hall said,
“It can make you wanna die if you’re not dead.” He has also said that the lack of widespread recognition of the severity of chronic Lyme (as opposed to just acute Lyme) is “almost a bad joke” to anyone who actually suffers from it (18 Celebrities…)
I want to bring awareness to Lyme and other debilitating conditions, so that others will not have to suffer the lifelong battles that I have had to endure nearly my entire life by receiving proper treatment early. I also want to bring encouragement and tips!
  • Keep fighting!
  • There are tons of mainstream and alternative treatments out there that are helping people with early to late-stage Lyme.
  • Clean up your diets! Many foods cause inflammation and/or feed the Lyme.
  • Clean up your environment! Rid your homes and bodies of chemicals that attack the nervous and immune systems (paints, stains, new carpets, cleaning products, air fresheners, smoke, perfume, chemically fragranced laundry, personal products, etc).
  • Create a support system (meet others living with similar challenges, see a counselor if needed, find a Lyme Literate Doctor).
  • Find a passion that gives you joy and feelings of accomplishment.
  • Focus on daily blessings and achievements, no matter how small.
  • Try to stay positive, because our attitudes impact our immune system.
  • Reach out to others with validation, a listening ear and compassion.
  • Don’t let go of who you are.
  • Know that you are valuable, worthwhile and have purpose no matter how limited you are.
  • Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
  • BELIEVE in yourself!

You go, Miss Rion Paige! You Have the X Factor!

November 11, 2013 By Sherri

Rion Page X FactorRion Page is a contestant on this season’s X Factor USA. She is just 13 years old, but has a voice and spirit that is bigger than life!

Rion is blind in one eye with glaucoma and has a congenital condition called, arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, which has permanently damaged her arms.

Rion told X Factor because of her curved wrist joints, she has to find new ways to do things and that every day is a challenge.

Nonetheless, she said, “Having a difference makes me more determined to conquer something!” She continued, “What you look like doesn’t define who you are. There is a fire burning inside me that you can’t take away … it’s just who I am!”

She was one of the Top 13 this week and is bound to make it to the next round with her last performance with, “Born This Way,” by Lady Gaga.

Not only was it spot on vocally, but her personal and passionate message was inspirational and something we can all learn from!

Our society today is way too judgmental, selfish and cruel. You go, Miss Rion Paige!! Show the world that our differences in the way we look don’t make us strange, but unique and wonderful! You are amazing!
